- In the hypnotic state it becomes possible to access the sub conscious mind which has many resources (e.g. motivation, feelings of success, calmness, motivation etc.) It then becomes possible to apply these resources to stopping smoking - making the process much more easy and automatic. (for any change to happen it has to happen within the mind first.)
Think of the mind as an iceberg the conscious aware part of your mind is just the bit above the surface, your sub conscious is the majority which is below the surface (the bit that controls all kinds of things without us being aware e.g. our breathing, heart rate and all the various metabolic processes which take place even when we are asleep)
It also has a role in creating and sustaining habits such as smoking - but the good thing is it can be 're-programmed' to stop those unwanted habits.
